We have both had a very busy year at work, and this has limited some of our usual activities - our website's news section is missing three of its usual sections (skiing, walking and wild flowers) because of injury (skiing) or little or nothing to report.
Socially, our main interest this year has continued to be the twinning of our small village with Parisot, a village in south west France (twinning page). Gillian has also continued with work on her family history. For the second year in a row, we have spent a lot of time apart this year because of the work trips. Following changes of job, Gillian is now travelling less, but Martin is travelling a lot with his EU project and his external examining in Malaysia.
We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in July, very quietly with three of our closest friends. Gillian joined Martin in Malaysia for his August external examining visit, and we finally achieved a long held ambition to visit Borneo (Malaysia page). Other holidays were at short notice in the UK - Porthmadog twice, and a few days based at Watchet in Somerset.
Last year, we reported that Gillian had fallen and broken her shoulder, and there were uncertainties regarding the extent of recovery. After a very rough time in January 2011, when the broken shoulder became a very painful frozen shoulder, she had a steroid injection in the joint and began a near-miraculous though slow recovery.
The hotel in Kuching, Borneo, decorated our room with rose petals for our wedding anniversary
