News 2009

We are deeply saddened by the death of our beloved Brandy on 22 April 2009, just short of her 21st birthday, and are grateful for the kind words of friends and family.

We visited Martin's family in Kent in early May, and saw the rare early spider orchid at Samphire Hoe, Dover. Samphire Hoe is a new landscape formed from the chalk marl of the Channel Tunnel workings.

Gillian went skiing with her niece Claire in Wengen, Switzerland and had a lovely time, even though they were probably the two youngest in the resort! Gillian and Martin went back to Wengen in the summer, taking the car via the Ardennes and Lucerne, and back via the Burgundy and Champagne regions (practising our French, honest!).

Gillian is enjoying working on her two EU projects and has been to other European countries six times this year for periods of 3-5 days including travel. Martin has also been away for 3x ten day trips to Malaysia as external examiner, so we've spent an extraordinary amount of time apart this year.

See separate pages for photos and more news of our village activities, skiing, wild flowers, walking our Switzerland trip and work trips.
